Installing Windows 98 without a CD-Key

If you have ever reinstalled Microsoft Windows, you probably recognise the problem: you can't find your CD-Key (or you never had one...). When I installed Windows 98 I stumbled on the problem again. After trying some keys found with google I gave up and started trying a new approach. I pressed cancel when presented with the dialog to enter a CD-Key and restarted my computer in safe mode. I'm afraid starting in safe mode withouth a cd-key has been disabled in newer versions of Windows but I haven't really tried. In safe mode I pressed Start -> Run -> regedit.exe. I looked for "product" and found a registry key named "productid" or something like that. Modify this key to something of the form xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx (so 5 times 5 characters). I guess you can only use capitals and numerals. Now also enter you name in the key "productowner" (or something like that) and your company in the appropriate key (don't remember). Et voila...
